Tuftex 4-X Babbit is a superior lead alloy used for shackling or re-shackling elevator wire ropes. It is made from the purest lead, antimony and tin available, in the approximate maximum ratio of 88/12/5. It has a melting point of 475 degrees Fahrenheit and a casting (pouring) temperature of 725 to 775 degrees Fahrenheit. It has a tensile strength of 1.8 times regular #4 (hardware) babbitt.
